Born in Herdecke on 24 January 1973; married, 4 children

Grew up with very close ties with two farms in southern Germany.

1992 “Abitur” (school-leaving examination qualifying for admission to university), 1992 - 1993 work in an agricultural enterprise near Lake Constance; after that enrolled to study veterinary medicine at Freie Universität Berlin (FU Berlin), graduated in 2000; in 2012 PhD in animal protection and animal behaviour at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich.

Since 2010 a member of ALLIANCE 90/THE GREENS; during this time she worked in the Council of the town of Wülfrath for six years, was spokesperson for the district of Mettmann for five years and in the Land executive board of North Rhine-Westphalia for four years. She was also spokesperson for the Land working group on forestry, agriculture and rural areas for four years and spokesperson for the federal working group on agriculture and rural development for six years.

She has been a Member of the German Bundestag since 2021 and has served as Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture since 8 December 2021.
