Food security projects - Bilateral Trust Fund with the FAO

Climate change poses a threat to agricultural development and thus food security, especially in the poorest and most vulnerable countries. A sustainable and productive agricultural sector that also mitigates climate change is hence key to safeguarding food security all over the world. As lead ministry for food security issues, the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) provides funds under the Bilateral Trust Fund (BTF) to support the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in its function as a knowledge organization to improve the nutritional situation worldwide. The BMEL has used the to provide about 142 million EUR in funds to a total of 118 projects with since 2002.
